Hull
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). Impact-resistant, flexible in extreme cold, and far more durable than typical sled plastics. Creates a naturally insulated base between your child and the snow.

Earlier this month my sons lead a group of 10 young men (and four dads) into the mountains of northwest Montana for a weekend of snow camping. This got me reminiscing back to the days our two Kindershuttles saved winter. My boys are 18 months apart. The first winter with two boys, I hooked the sleds together with a D-ring and quick-draw. I pulled them for hours across frozen lakes regardless of cold and wind. It kept me sane! We also went on grand ski adventures with my husband and I each pulling a sled. At times the big brother pulled the tandem sleds... until exhausted (also good for all of us).

The sleds worked great, the low center of gravity kept them from tipping. On the rare occasion we rolled a sled, the harness kept the boys safe (and giggling). We added insulation under the seat and leg area. It was lovely to hear their little voices behind me: singing, reading books, munching snacks. I always imaged we would repurpose the shuttles into pulks as the boys grew... but I could not resist passing them along to friends with little ones. No doubt, joining mom and dad on winter adventures (or simply morning walks/skis) has played a major role in making them the outdoors men they are today!

These boys are nordic racers and on the US Junior Ski Orienteering Team. They spend their summers working and volunteering in National Parks and Wilderness Areas. They sleep better in a tent than in the house. Oh I am thankful for all of that!

And of course I am thankful the winters Kindershuttle saved for my young family!

Only used twice but pleased so far! The pulk is easy to pull on flat groomed trails, proved to be more work in shallow, ungroomed snow but still doable. We loaded my child up with blankets and a hot waterbottle and she was nice and toasty. The pulk up quickly and easily and fits into the trunk of my Toyota Matrix!

We bought a Kindershuttle over 15 years ago, and it saw heavy use for the next couple of years of nordic and light backcountry touring while our kids were too little to start skiing on their own. What great times! More than just a super rugged sled to haul the kids around, the Kindershuttle kept our littles bundled up and happy on a day out in the snow. Good venting keeps the windows clear and the little ones from soggy chill. Better than a pack, it let us haul along all sorts of goodies and kit for a picnic in the mountains. Countless times setting it up, breaking it down and tossing it in the truck to go again: no failed hardware, no tears, no bad zippers, and the PVC stayed clear. we have had a kinder shuttle for about 12 years. Our son had down syndrome and we first used it with the cover and the strapping system. As he grew older, he was stable enough to sit in the sled. He has low endurance. He wasn’t able to cross country ski with us for a long duration so the kinder shuttle was a great solution. We have used it hard-core for 12 years in Alaska. It’s extremely durable and well-made and goes well on all types of snow, including groomed or deeper snow and ungroomed trails.
We have tried other ski systems, including the fuel chariot and the Venice cycle, which is specifically for adults with disabilities and has a ski system. We like the kinder shuttle sled and poke the best because of the low center of gravity is more stable than either of those ski systems where your child sits higher up and are on skinny skis. We found the kinder shuttle sled is less likely to tip over and as mentioned above it goes better on all types of snow.
The sled has been extremely durable and has mentioned his lasted for 12 years with no problems until my husband ran over it with the snow plow. We just ordered a replacement sled and are extremely happy with the same quality construction as the original. I would highly recommend getting this for your child. It can grow with your child and has worked well for us with a child with disabilities. If you’re a debating about the expense, let me reassure you that it is worth every penny.

I have had our Kindershuttle for 8 years and I have really enjoyed pulling my kids in it through all our winter activities. It is much nicer to use on groomed ski trails verses single track snowshoes trails. My kids stay warm and dry in the kindershuttle. They can play with their toys, eat snacks, or even enjoy a nice nap. My oldest started riding it in 4-5 months old with the infant car seat placed in the kindershuttle. The kindershuttle breaks down easily to fit back in the car-totally doable with dogs and kids running amuck. The system is very nice on body mechanics as well-fits snug around the hips but doesn’t limit mobility. I have hiked snowshoed, classic and skate skied with it. I’m having a hard time thinking this will be my last year to use it with my youngest.
