The Medevac U-MAX CASEVAC system is built around our U-MAX sled. The specialized hull bottom is designed to function as an integrated spineboard, while the fully enclosed cover creates a protective barrier from wind, snow, and cold. A lightweight canopy keeps the cover completely off the patient, creating an enclosed space for transport and care.

A cold-resistant TPU window allows for patient monitoring without opening the cover. The complete CASEVAC cover can also be easily interchanged with the U-MAX freight transport bag, allowing the same sled platform to serve multiple roles.

History of Wilderness Engineering XLPE Hull Use

XLPE (Cross-Linked High-Density Polyethylene) is one of the most fielded sled materials in U.S. military history, with over 10,000 Wilderness Engineering systems deployed worldwide over more than 30 years. It was deliberately chosen over rigid materials like fiberglass, epoxy composites, standard HDPE, and standard polyethylene because of its rare combination of toughness, cold-weather strength, and controlled flexibility in extreme cold. The manufacturing process results in an ultra-durable plastic without weak points in critical corners and edges.

Military Performance 

Built to handle rough operational environments, it offers a proven track record of durability across demanding field conditions. When pulled behind a high-speed snowmobile, a fully loaded sled repeatedly slams into hidden rocks, frozen ruts, and rough terrain. Rather than using a stiff shell that can crack, split, or break apart under heavy impacts, XLPE flexes to absorb shock and snaps back into shape. To ensure steady handling, the material combines the natural slickness of polyethylene for easy sliding with an engineered surface texture that helps the sled dig into side hills resulting in unyielding dependability.
